Why are African-American and White-American churches so different?
It goes back to Africa In Europe, Christianity and the Church was a highly institutionalised, structured and stiff organisation, and was as much political as it was religious. Church in Europe was more solemn and was essentially just used as a means of continuously guilting the peasants into contributing millions into projects which strengthened the clergy. Church was quite impersonal, with catholics recieving mass in a language they didnt even speak (Latin) and many protestant denominations using hellfire and brimstone as a means of submitting their population to strict religious rules. In Africa, on the other hand, religious celebration was FAR more involved. There was dancing, singing, etc. It was as much a social affair as it was a religious one and thus from a western perspective it was WAYYY more fun.
