Why are actresses careers seemingly shorter than actors careers?

There is definitely a sexism problem with Hollywood, and there are many reasons for it. One, the studio system is not kind to women after a certain age. Even a supremely gifted actress like Meryl Streep has to fight for roles. It’s not a given that she can get her projects vetted or even on the screen simply because of her age. Great Actresses like Holly Hunter, Glenn Close, and Geena Davis have all moved over to television where they command good money and better roles. Second, the box office is not there for older women. Young men and women will not go and see a Meryl Streep unless it is part of an ABBA movie. Doubt for which Meryl Streep was Oscar nominated did very small business at the box office. Third, men and teenage boys just won’t go and see chic flics on a regular basis, where as teenage girls and women will idolize and continue to watch older male stars on film. Last but not least, much of the blame goes on modern society. We have become a shallow society of vain people. Id
