Why and how did JRR Tolkien create Middle – Earth?
He was writing in a round about way on his experiences in world war two, the same way that the chronicles of narnia did… but post world war two there were no fantasy books in existence, and, having a particular aptitude for languages, and being a linguistic himself, Tolkien created the world of middle earth as a conduit for his views on the war and expressing his feeling of it the only way he knew… as it was not in the English men of those times to express emotion.
