Why an All Girl Computer Camp?
Simply stated, there is a shortage of women pursing technology careers in engineering and computer science. Less than 20% of undergraduate degrees in engineering and computer science go to women. There are many theories as to why this occurs, but most agree that girls tend to shy away from science and math starting in their middle school years. At Saint Vincent, we would like to give young women, in these crucial years of development, a chance to explore computer technology in a supportive and relaxed environment. It is our hope that they will walk away from this camp with a greater understanding of this discipline and an increased sense of confidence in themselves.
