Why am I receiving the message “This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down,” when starting A.D.A.M. Comprehensive?
The most likely cause of this error message is that your display may be set to run in more than 256 colors. Comprehensive must be run in exactly 256 colors. To change your color setting, go to Start – Settings – Control Panel – Display – Settings and choose 256 from the list of Color Palettes. Click OK and then click YES to restart Windows when it asks you if you want to do so. Once Windows opens again the program should run without further error messages. If you have confirmed that your display driver is set for 256 colors and you continue to receive the error message, your video driver may need to be updated. To do this, download the newest drivers for your video card from the manufacturer’s web site or contact your manufacturer by phone. If you are using Windows 3.x, you must change the number of colors by changing the video driver from the Windows Setup icon in the Main program group. Please see your computer’s documentation or contact your computer manufacture for more details.
