Why am I having problems installing SCO OpenServer 5.0.2 on any Dell OptiPlex or Dell Dimension system with an EIDE hard-disk drive and an IDE or EIDE CD-ROM?
During the installation, you must specify that your IDE or EIDE CD-ROM device should be accessed as if it were a SCSI device by choosing the SCSI CD-ROM option and selecting the Western Digital (WD) driver. This configuration allows some IDE or EIDE CD-ROM drives to be read correctly; however, this procedure does not work in all cases. If it does not work, try the following: • Move the CD-ROM drive to the same primary IDE connection as the hard-disk drive, and then set the correct master-slave jumper configuration. • Remove the IDE CD-ROM drive and change to a SCSI CD-ROM drive with the appropriate SCSI controller for installing the operating system to an EIDE hard-disk drive.
