Key Omega-3 fatty acids include eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexanoic acid (DHA). Both are found primarily in oily cold-water fish such as salmon, tuna and mackerel. Unfortunately, these important nutrients are extremely prone to oxidation, especially in the powdered form, when the oils surface area exposed to air is increased by several orders of magnitude. With oxidation, the oil powder will experience a reduction in unsaturated fatty acid content. If you want to include omega-3 fatty acids in your cats diet it seems more beneficial to do it by adding fresh salmon oil encapsulated in softgel capsules. They are widely available in vitamin stores or online.
