Why, after joining tables, do the joined field names appear but the attribute data does not?

The attributes of a joined table are not visible if the joined filename has a space in it’s filename. (For example, if you join a table named ‘my data.dbf’ to a layer in ArcMap, the fields from ‘my data.dbf’ will be visible in the layer’s attribute table, but you won’t see the values. To avoid this problem, make sure that the filename of your table doesn’t include spaces.
