The fracing solution is 99.5% water and sand. The remaining 0.5% is a chemical mixture designed to make the water slippery in order to reduce friction when it is pumped through the wellbore. In addition, an agent is added to eliminate bacteria, while trace amounts of additives are added to prevent pipe corrosion and inhibit scale formation. Range has never used diesel fuel as a component of this mixture. Range’s Chairman and CEO, John Pinkerton, was one of the first in the industry to call for full disclosure of frac fluid additives. The additives, their concentrations and generic use was published by the U. S. Department of Energy in their “Modern Shale Gas Development in the United States: A Primer” published in April 2009 along with the Groundwater Protection Council, and the National Energy Technology Laboratory. [See pages 61 through 64 of the Primer at http://www.iogcc.state.ok.us/hydraulic-fracturing ] These disclosures are now available on multiple websites, including www.pamar
