Why Abbot Point?

0

In June 2008, the Queensland Government declared Abbot Point as a State Development Area (SDA). Within this SDA, the Government has allocated precincts for industry development. Abbot Point was selected by CHALCO Australia as the preferred site for the alumina refinery in June 2008. The three main benefits of the Abbot Point site are: – Located near an existing deepwater port, which is currently undergoing expansion – Within the SDA, 25 km north-west of Bowen, creating a buffer zone between community and industrial areas – Although a greenfield industrial site there is potential for sharing information and costs with subsequent projects. For further information about the SDA, refer to www.dip.qld.gov.au/land/abbot-point.
