Why a Stove-Top Popper?
I’m sometimes a nostalgia freak, performing kitchen tasks the old-fashioned way (except for the use of a dishwasher — I will never give up my dishwasher) and enjoying the simplicity and wholesome quality of the job and knowing it’s well done. The “Whirley Pop” poppers have intrigued me since their forty-plus dollar aluminum crank-driven pots hit the store shelves several years ago. I found myself almost hooked, but could not bide the high price tag. I never lost sight of those poppers and admired them whenever possible, turning the cranks, watching the stirring blade spin on the bottom of the pot, and dreaming. Last year, at Christmas, the dream fell into my shopping cart under the name “Back to Basics”. The product idea is the same as Whirley Pop, the workings are similar and the popped corn is second to none.
