Why a Robotics Team?
FIRST, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, has a vision to “transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology heroes.” • Robotics competition challenges students and their mentors to solve a common problem in a six-week timeframe. • Teams build robots from a kit of parts and enter them in competitions. • Students gain self-confidence and communication and leadership skills. • Students discover how interesting and rewarding the life of engineers and researchers can be, by working alongside mentors from the engineering profession. • Companies and organizations around the world share in the FIRST mission and its values of Teamwork, Gracious Professionalism, and the Pursuit of Science and Technology Excellence. Their generosity in sponsoring teams and donating employee volunteer hours makes FIRST programs possible.
