Why A PLB instead of an ELT?
ELTs definitely have their limitations, specifically when we are talking about how often they work as intended during a crash. The main difference is the activation method. ELTs are activated manually or by a G-Switch when the plane crashes, while a PLB is manually activated only. Thanks to the small size of a PLB, they can easily be mounted in the cockpit area, stored in your flight suit or simply placed in your pocket so they are readily available in case you ever need to use it. The additional benefit is that a PLB is registered to the person, not the aircraft. So you can take your PLB with you on fishing trips, hiking, snowmobiling, etc. and have the peace of mind of knowing you will be able to access help anywhere in the world.
