Why a Pallas cat study?

The Pallas cat has a large geographic range in the great Asian steppe from west of Turkey through Russia, China, and into Mongolia. The Pallas cat is ranked Near Threatened, the fourth of 5 threat categories. Jed Murdock decided to study community ecology as part of his PhD requirements. The Pallas cat, Corsac fox, badger, and skunk all inhabit the steppe. Thus, Jed’s project involves radio-collaring and studying these carnivores and the threats to their continued existence. Because the Pallas cat is a small cat and because the Small Cat Conservation Alliance supports the study of small cats globally, our partnership makes good sense. In March our partner Kennon Dixon-Hudson supplied 15 radio-collars to support Jed’s project because Kennon thinks Pallas cats are stunning. And they are! For more details, visit Jed’s website here.
