From Mayor Lori Donchak’s blog at san-clemente.org: Good morning, Ms. Mayor. As you know, we are in the final phases of opening a new restaurant here in San Clemente. I had occasion recently to arrange for a skip to be delivered to the work site to remove the accumulated debris and discarded work materials. I found that we have local businesses, based here in San Clemente, offering that service at very competitive rates. However, they are not allowed to offer their services in San Clemente because CR&R has a franchise agreement with the city. This means I cannot support my local colleagues and I have to pay an inflated price (nearly 30 percent more) to CR&R, which has a monopoly. Surely this runs against the grain of everything the city and the country stands for. I want to support local businesses who provide income and employment in my city.
