Why a Homemade Hand Sanitizer?
Commercially available sanitizers contain chemical fragrances that contain phthalates which are known to cause reproductive complications. Polyethylene glycol used in hand sanitizers contain 1,4 dioxane a suspected carcinogen. Many hand sanitizers have triclosan an antibacterial agent which is known to be associated with abnormalities with the endocrine system particularly with thyroid hormone signaling, weakening of the immune system, birth defects, uncontrolled cell growth and unhealthy weight loss. In the beginning triclosan kills bacteria but on prolonged use the notorious bacteria such as e.coli, salmonella, shigella and other intestinal bacteria develop resistant against it and then it becomes difficult to treat them. Instead of reducing the risk of infection such antibacterial products actually augment it by supporting the growth of resistance bacteria. Carbomer, aminomethyl propanol and benzalknonium chloride, are other hazardous chemicals often found in commercial hand sanitiz
