Why a Holy Text for African Religion?
If Africa has produced any social philosophy, if she had produced any practical theology at all, those philosophies and ideologies have their fundamental base in African Religion. African Religion is the backbone of the African thought, and African thought is the crucial base on which any present and future development must be based. In his book, Introduction to African Religion, the worldly renown theologian, Professor John Mbiti says, “African Religion has been largely responsible for shaping the character and culture of African peoples throughout centuries… Even if it has no sacred books, it is written everywhere in the people and it is wrong and foolish, therefore, to speak of them as pagans, or to regard their religion as paganism… African Religion is pragmatic and realistic.
