The Biotrike is powered by a Caterpillar diesel engine. A diesel engine is by design much more efficient in converting energy (fuel) to work. Typically this is about 30% more efficient than gasoline engines. Diesel engines are built heavier and are designed to last much longer than gasoline engines. Caterpillar has approved the use of B20 biodiesel fuels, thus lowering our dependence on foreign oil.
