Why a daily limit of 5 walleye but only 3 pike?
Other than a few lake/area specific exceptions, this regulation has been in place statewide for more than half a century. These regulations have overall served the public well – balancing angler harvest with species populations. There have been times that pike harvest from certain lakes could have been higher for a short period of time. However, maintaining consistent and understandable statewide fishing regulations is far more important in the long-term than continually adjusting regulations for just a few water bodies. For the past 30 years, managing biologists have continually assessed different limits for different species and have concluded the current limits still serve a sound purpose.
