Whos eligible to become a tutor?
• Because America Reads is a federal work-study, community service initiative, ALL America Reads Tutors must receive a work-study award as part of their financial aid package. (Need information on applying for financial aid?). In addition, successful tutors: • Enjoy helping young children become independent readers. • Value reflecting on their service work in order to better understand the context of the many issues that have an impact on children learning and our country’s public education system. • Can commit to the fall semester of service. (We realize that you don’t know your winter semester schedule at this time but we ask that when the time comes, you create your schedule in a way that allows you to maintain your America Reads placement.) • Students who are studying abroad winter semester or graduating in December are not eligible to apply.
