Who wrote the song Sons of Liberty?”
he Sons of Liberty were started in Boston, Massachusetts in protest of the Stamp Act of 1765. The Sons of Liberty also opposed the Townshend Acts, the Tea Tax, and any form of “Taxation without Representation”. Some of the more famous Sons of Liberty included it’s leader, the “Father of American Independence”, Samuel Adams, Patrick Henry, John Hancock, James Otis, Paul Revere, and Doctor Joseph Warren , who was killed at Bunker Hill. Here is a song written by the Sons of Liberty on December 16, 1773, the night of the Boston Tea Party. Some say Samuel Adams himself had a part in the writing of the song, others credit Paul Revere, who was a major contributor to the event, but no one knows for sure.
SAW proudly sponsors the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest (MASC) each year. MASC, which is one of the longest-running contests in the nation and which attracts entries from around the world, offers amateur songwriters an opportunity to enter their songs in a wide variety of categories. Prizes are awarded to the first and second place (gold and silver) winners in each category, with a panel of music industry professionals choosing three top prize winners from among those entries. All category winners are invited to perform their winning songs at the Awards Gala held in Washington, D.C. in November-December, culminating with the three top winners being announced that night. The top songs from each category are compiled and released on a “Winner’s CD,” copies of which are given to each winner and distributed to a variety of music industry decision-makers. The entry deadline for MASC is July-August, with entry forms available from SAW’s website (or you can request one by mail) in early April.
