Kurt Cobain was the chief lyricist for Nirvana and U2 is and always has been the songwriter for U2. Comparing the two would be futile… they’re two completely different styles of songwriting. Kurt had more of the “bare one’s inner pain” type of approach to songwriting. His addictions, depression, angst, anger and disapproval were all very evident in his lyrics. Bono is more of a positive songwriter. Rather than focusing on the dark recesses inside, Bono tends to shed light on even the darkest of subjects and comes up on the side of hope. Both are excellent songwriters however.
