Who Wrote The First Five Books Of The Bible?
The authorship of the first five books of the Bible, also called the Pentateuch and the Books of the Law, is long and complex. A simple summary would be that people who hold to the Inerrancy of the Bible would say that Moses wrote all five books. This is seen in the books themselves when it is said that Moses wrote the law down (Ex. 24:4, Deut. 31:9). The rest of the Old Testament also speaks of the Law as written down by Moses (Josh. 8:31, 2 Chron. 34:14). Jesus himself refers to the pentateuch as being the words of Moses (Mark 7:10). If you believe the Bible is without error then you would have to say that Moses wrote it. The other main theory is called the Documentary Hypothesis. This suggests that the Pentateuch is actually an edited document taken from four principle sources and redacted at a much later date.
