It was written by John while in exile on the Isle of Patmos around AD 80. John wrote it as a letter of hope to the 7 Churches of Asia during the peak of the Roman persecution of Christians. Even though it talks of unspeakable judgements its message is that God will protect thoses who accept Jesus as their Savior.
