Jacques the Fatalist and his Master’ is a book written by French writer Denis Diderot during a period of almost 15 years (1765-1780). The book is mainly centred on the relationship between the valet Jacques and his master. The two are travelling to a destination the narrator leaves insistently vague, and to dispel the boredom of the trip Jacques is compelled by his master to recount the story of his loves. The book was published in 1796.
