Who would you say will establish the first colony on the Moon and then Mars?

The first colony will probably be on Mars and not the moon, and used as a base to reach one of the moons of Jupiter. The problem is that Mars has no magnetic field anymore and so is not a viable long term solution.

I listened to a talk about it on Second Life by someone from NASA and they certainly seem to be taking a moon base pretty seriously. It’s a shame though that it’s done in the name of national pride rather than the advancement of science to benefit all mankind.

I would guess that while Europe and America are developing something to get there and build a colony, one of the up-and-coming super powers like China or India will get there first — especially if they begin competing with each other (Think of the cold war space-race, but on a larger scale: getting to mars is a big job)
