Who would you rate as Australias greatest ever cricket captain?
I would go with the Open Era – Steve Waugh. Even though Ian Chappell and Don Bradman come close. If one remembers in the 90s Australia had a decent team but could win WC matches, even though they had won the 1987. Steve Waugh’s team in 1999 at brink of loosing did manage to win the tie game against SA and eventually the trophy. That was the beginning of Aussies dominating the Cricket and ranked #1 and from there on they easily won in 2003 and 2007(not under Steve). The momentum of being ruthless even existed prior, became more and more during Steve’s captaincy. They won the Ashes and the only mark on Steve’s captaincy is not able to win a series in India, even though his team came close only to be ruined by the great record batting of Lax and Dravid. I have no knowledge of Don Bradman;s captaincy or see him play other than reading the information available. I believe he was great Individual contributor and will remain like that for ever and no one can beat his record average in our lif
