I assume you mean Sparta at the height of its power. In 371 BCE, the city state of Thebes defeated Sparta and, with Athens, became the leading city-state in Greece. Alexander’s father, Philip II, through diplomacy and conquest, became ruler of Greece by the mid 330s, beating a combine Athenian and Thebean army at the battle of Chaeronea in 338 BCE. So, if you mean a battle between Alexander at his height of power and Sparta at their height of power: Alexander the Great was one of the greatest military tacticians to ever live and not just in Greece, but in the world. In addition to his military genius, Alexander had a fairly good army. Now, I take it that the Spartans would have fought and fought hard, probably to the death. But, fanactism in battle, even when the troops are well trained, means little — look at the Japanese against United States troops in the Pacific theater.
