Who would get bodyguards and British Transport Police guards on a train?
Senior politicians will have some sort of protection, but they don’t usually claim an entire carriage for themselves. It must have been someone full of self-importance… The royals travel by train quite often: Princess Anne travels regularly from her home in Gloucestershire to London. She’s been on my train a few times and is really pleasant. She travels first class with just one bodyguard and doesn’t demand a carriage to herself. I took Princess Margaret from London to Charlbury a long time ago: she had six bodyguards. Clever woman, Margaret: she was only five feet nothing but could still look down on everyone….. I took the queen from London to Chippenham once. She had a first class carriage to herself and her ensemble. There were around twenty royal protection officers dotted around the rest of the train, keeping a low profile.
