Who won tonights New Orleans Saints game?
At least seven Saints players are expected to miss tonight’s exhibition opener against the Cincinnati Bengals at the Superdome. Those not playing are receivers Courtney Roby (hamstring), Lance Moore (shoulder) and Adrian Arrington (hamstring), cornerbacks Tracy Porter (hamstring) and Reggie Jones (Achilles’ heel), safety Chip Vaughn (knee) and linebacker Mark Simoneau (triceps). There also is a chance running back Mike Bell will miss the game with an undetermined ailment. Bell and Porter are dressed, however. Also, Jones,who went down with his injury during Wednesday’s practice, was placed on injured reserve on Friday. Jones, an undrafted rookie from Portland State, was vying to make the team at an already loaded cornerback position. The NFL’s active leader in career interceptions added two more against rookie Mark Sanchez(notes), returning one a club-record 99 yards for a touchdown to help the unbeaten Saints hand the New York Jets their first loss of the season, 24-10 on Sunday. Sharper’s trademark shoulder-shaking celebrations are becoming a symbol of a defense that can now take credit for leading New Orleans to victory after taking the blame for the Saints’ failure to make the playoffs the past two seasons.
