Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey scored the goals at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein to end European champion Spain’s record streak of 15 straight wins. A victory for Spain would have given it a record run of 36 games unbeaten. Bob Bradley’s team, which had the lowest points total of any team to make the semifinals in the eight-nation event, withstood a barrage of attacks to become the first team to beat Spain since Romania in November 2006, 36 matches ago.
