Who won the easter rising?
The Rising was quashed by the British army, but the execution of the leaders of the Rising compelled people to continue to fight for independence and the War of Independence then took place five years later in 1921. The biggest mistake the British army made was executing the leaders. By doing that, they turned them into martyrs and it inspired the Irish to fight back in a big way. To this day the 1916 Rising leaders are considered heroes in Ireland.
