Christine There are a lot of categories in the MTV Video Music Awards, so I’ll assume you mean the top award, which is Best Video of the Year. In 1984, the first year MTV had an award ceremony (of any kind), the winner was The Cars’ “You Might Think,” which was on the album, Heartbeat City The video was pretty cool … I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. The fly, the car … it was a neat idea. Plus, it featured Ric Ocasek’s future wife Paulina Porizkova, a fabulous model who was one of the first supermodels to marry an unattractive rock star.
