Who will win Jerry Garcias guitars?
SAN RAFAEL, California — A battle is forming over who is the rightful owner to Jerry Garcia’s guitars, The Associated Press reports. In the latest development, a Marin County Superior Court judge has refused to dismiss a lawsuit filed by guitar-maker Doug Irwin. He claims he owns the guitars because he made them for the deceased Grateful Dead legend, and Garcia left the guitars to him in his will. But Grateful Dead Productions, the Novato-based company representing the surviving band members, says it bought the guitars and they’re not for Garcia to give away. Garcia died in 1995. The guitars, named Wolf, Tiger, Rosebud, Headless and Wolf Jr., could be worth millions on the collectors’ market.
