Who will pay for the construction of the tunnel?
The City has applied for funding for the project from both the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario. The City of Ottawa will work in partnership with both the Federal and Provincial governments and is responsible for a share of the costs involved in completing the project. The City has identified funding for these projects through the Transportation Master Plan and the Capital Budget. As well, the City’s Long Range Financial Plan includes funding for rapid transit expansion. In addition, the City is also considering all other possible sources for funding, including federal and provincial gas taxes, development charges, alternative financing and procurement options, provincial bus replacement program revenues, the City Transit Reserve Fund, and future allocations from the Capital Budget.
