Who will maintain the creek long-term?
Creeks have been minimally managed in the past. That is changing for good for a number of reasons: 1) The Cotati Creek Critters are currently writing a vegetation management plan for the City of Cotati to provide suggestions for plant maintenance and future projects along the creek. Included will be mowing and pruning schedules to assure that plants close to the path are pruned. Trees close to the water will be pruned yearly to encourage tall, limbless trunks that rise above the highest water levels. Weeds will be selectively mown or weed whacked as necessary. The vegetation management plan will be developed with input from, and ultimate approval of the SCWA and City of Cotati. 2) Cities are now regulated by the state over the quality of the stormwater that drains from the city into the creeks.
