Who will investigate my complaint about domestic neighbour noise?
We will investigate complaints relating to noise nuisance. In some cases you may be directed to another agency which has powers to deal with your complaint eg if it relates to a council tenant – report the problem to your local services. Conditions of tenancy usually require that tenants do not cause nuisance to neighbours. Housing associations may have the same conditions for tenants. In addition the police have powers to deal with the following types of noises: • sounding or playing of musical instruments • singing or performing • operating any sound producing device and • the seizure of sound producing equipment. If your neighbour is causing you a problem between 5.30pm and 3.30am we may be able to help. Our night time noise team are available seven days a week for most of the year. If you phone the Police about domestic noise during the above times, they will refer your call to us.
