Who will History at AS/A2 Level appeal to?
Many pupils at Haileybury study History to GCSE Level and the History course offers the opportunity to continue those studies by considering, in more depth, other major characters and events in European History. We have chosen these topics so that they do not overlap with our GCSE course and will interest all our pupils. The early modern option considers some of England’s most memorable leaders from the Stuart period and the effect of the Reformation on Europe. The very modern option considers the change to dictatorships in two major powers in the twentieth century (Germany and China), the development of democracy in Britain and a fascinating period of transition in Russia. The Department runs a trip to Europe (Berlin in 2007) and a trip further a field on alternate years. The trip in 2006 went to China; and in 2008 it is going to Russia.
