Kenner and Mattel are vying for the retailer’s crown in a battle of the “beauty pageant” dolls. Currently arriving in stores is Kenner’s new Miss America Fashion Doll Collection, an officially licensed line of nine beauty pageant dolls and accessories. The 11 -and-a-half-inch-tall dolls each sport a flexible body, painted face, combable hair, authentic Miss America insignia, and an evening gown or talent outfit that strips down to a swimsuit. Sold separately are play sets that include a doll-toting parade car, child-size crown, scepter, banner and cosmetics, plus a working camera and an audio tape featuring Bert Park’s signature theme song.
