Who will be making the spec ECU and how much will it cost teams to use?
As this is a large championship the ECU supply contract went to tender in the same manner as for the control tyres. We had a surprising number of manufacturers apply, including some very big names and Motec came out on top. The ECU will be capable of running much more advanced strategies if it is needed in the future however in 2010 traction control, launch control and anti-wheelie will all be banned and there will be no facility in the ECU to use them. The EVO class is about bringing a lot of the rider skills back to the race, we want to see tyres spinning and bike wheelying, much of this is achieved by simplifying the Electronics which also has the benefit of massive cost savings. As for the cost that could be a pleasant surprise to many teams and will be less than buying new ‘Kit’ parts every season.
