Who were The Spiders From Mars?
Ziggy Stardust’s backing band were The Spiders From Mars who consisted of Mick Ronson (guitar), Trevor Bolder (bass) and Mick ‘Woody’ Woodmansey (drums). Other musicians also used in live performances were: Mathew Fisher (piano) in 20th April 1972, replaced by Robin Lumley from 2nd June 1972. Nicky Graham joins rehearsals for the 1st US leg on piano in August 1972. Mike Garson joins the touring band on piano after being auditioned by Mick Ronson in January 1973. Brian Wilshaw (saxophone, flute), Ken Fordham (saxophone) and Geoffrey MacCormack (percussion, backing vocals) were also added to the backing band for the second US leg of the tour. For the Japanese leg of the tour John Hutchinson (rhythm/12-string acoustic guitar) and additional drummer Aynsley Dunbar were added to the line-up.
