Who were the pleasant surprises on the mens side?
Wes Brubaker really had a breakout year coming out of a solid high school background. His best quality is his quiet determination. He got in pretty good shape, but also was a savvy racer and was able to use his fitness well on a weekly basis. Also, Troy Seiberling joining the team a week or two into our season was a nice surprise. He too made a nice transition to the 8K distance. Kevin Mottura was slashing chunks of time every time he raced. We say flashes of brilliance from Robert Kistner, but he couldn’t catch a break, with illnesses. All of our men, from the front to the back, worked hard all season. A few were faced with challenges and injuries but even those guys handled their own situations as wisely as they could. This was a hard working, focused group and that wasn’t really a surprise, but it certainly was nice to have. Often a team’s success is built on the athletes who do not surprise you.
