Who were the members of Thunderbolts gang??
In 1856, before he became a bushranger, Ward formed a gang of horse and cattle thieves comprising himself, his brothers William and Joshua and his cousins John and James Garbutt. In 1863, following his escape from Cockatoo Island, he rode for a while with fellow escapee Fred Britten and his wife(?) Mary Ann Bugg. After eventually splitting with Britten he recruited two stockmen whose names are not recorded. In 1864 he recruited William McIntosh, William Mackie, John Hogan and a 16 y.o. named John Thompson who was later shot during a gunbattle with police at the hotel at Millie (I have a piece of wood and a brick from the pub in my collection). One source refers to a person named Long, however, I suspect he has mistaken Mary Ann who was also known as Yellow Long.
