The inhabitants of India prior to the coming of the British (LOL) were the many tribes of Indians who had lived there before, plus the Moghuls who invaded before the British did. The variety of the original inhabitants can be traced in the many languages spoken in India today. I ask my Indian friends to correct my answer.
