Who were the designers/ architects?
Prof. Brenda and Dr. Robert Vale were the architects for the houses. They worked closely with Nick Martin, project member. David Leigh designed the water systems. Project members in conjunction with Newark & Sherwood District Council developed landscaping of the site. Prof. Brenda and Dr. Robert Vale are leading green architects of international renown. They have been elected to the United Nations Global Environment Roll of Honour for their contribution to energy conservation The Vales have written and lectured extensively and have designed a number of low energy buildings since the 1980’s. They won the first “Green Building of the Year Award” in 1992 for the Woodhouse Medical Centre, Sheffield. They have also built their own ‘green’ home, ‘The Autonomous House’ which won them the Eurosolar Award in 1995.
