The Little Rascals was a 1982-1984 Saturday morning cartoon series produced jointly by Hanna-Barbera Productions and King World, and broadcast on ABC. Based upon the classic Our Gang comedy short films, it was part of a 90-minute package program, The Pac-Man/Little Rascals/Richie Rich Show, with Pac-Man and Richie Rich in 1982–1983, and part of the 30-minute The Little Rascals/Richie Rich Show in 1983 – 1984 Previous Little Rascals/Our Gang animated television programs The Little Rascals had been animated for television twice before. The spunky team of wee ones included Spanky, Alfalfa, Buckwheat, Froggy, Butch, Darla and a host of other human and canine (think Pete the Dog and Violet the Goat) oddities. There’s even little Mickey Guibitosi, who would later change his name to Robert Blake (below), and later, to inmate No. 7253166. Originally developed by producer Hal Roach as a series of silent shorts, Our Gang remained a box-office favorite for decades, pulling in name recognition (and tarnished futures) for the kids and big bucks for distributor MGM. In the mid-1950s, the Roach-produced shorts with sound were syndicated for television under the title The Little Rascals, as MGM retained the rights to the Our Gang trademark. Sources: Examiner.
