Who were Gaul and Carthage?
The Gauls were several tribes (Caesar numbers them as three main tribes) that occupied what is today Modern France, Switzerland and Northern Italy. They were the people whom Caesar conquered that brought him great wealth and fame with the Roman people. Carthage was a Phonecian (Greek or Turkish origin) City in North Africa (Present day Tunisia). They were a sea faring people who controlled trade in most of the Western Mediterraenian Sea until brought into conflict with Rome beginning in 264 BCE (Before the Common Era). After three wars which have become known as the Punic Wars between 264 BCE and 146 BCE the city was destroyed and many of its residents murdered or sold into slavery.
