Who was voltaire?
Brief Bio: Francois Marie Arouet (pseudonym Voltaire) was born on 21 November 694 in Paris, France. Voltaire’s intelligence, wit and style made him one of France’s greatest writers and philosophers. Young Francois Marie received his education at “Louis-le-Grand,” a Jesuit college in Paris where he said he learned nothing but “Latin and the Stupidities.” He left school at 17 and soon made friends among the Parisian aristocrats. Hard to see that happening with that lady who cranks out the Harry Potter books. Besides his writings, Voltaire?s legacy includes a museum, boulevard, and Metro stop in Paris, a bookstore in Austin, Texas, the annoying 80s band Cabaret Voltaire, and a town in North Dakota named Voltaire (pop. 63). We can also thank him for the classic phrase: “If God did not exist, he would have to be invented.” I wish someone had invented signs poin
