Who was the Roman Emperor who was converted to Christianity?
Constantine was the first to convert to Christianity. Some question the sincerity of his conversion given some of his subsequent behavior. This included murder and other violent deeds. Constantine was favorable towards Christianity but did not properly convert until on his death bed. In order to appease his pagan subjects he put off baptism, and thus initiation into the Church. Constantine also put off being baptized to capitalize on the Christian belief that such a ritual would confer grace that effectively washed away both Original and actual sin. When he finally was baptized, it was by an Arian bishop, who nonetheless used the correct baptismal formula.
