10/8/09 – ‘Warriors in Pink’ quilt unveiled at cancer center: Patches were made at Race for the Cure [The Dominion Post, Morgantown, W.Va.] Oct. 8Ford “Warriors In Pink” is the newest decoration at WVU’s Betty Puskar Breast Care Center, but it represents more than something to look at. The quilt is composed of 120 blocks bearing embroidered and decorated messages of hope and love for those who are battling breast cancer. The handmade patches of remembrance, dedication and celebration were created at this year’s Pittsburgh Race for the Cure. About 1,000 people took advantage of the Patchwork Station, sponsored by The Neighborhood Ford Store, to create patches. These patches were then sewn together to create Ford “Warrior in Pink” quilts. Rick Corwin of Corwin Ford Sales, Mannington, and Neighborhood Ford Store board member, presented the quilt to the Puskar Breast Care Center on Wednesday. It will be on permanent display in the center’s lobby, providing hope to women battling the diseas
A dose of pink cheer now greets patients at Wheeling Hospital’s new Comprehensive Breast Care Center. One of nine “Warriors in Pink” quilts was presented to the facility Tuesday by the Neighborhood Ford Store – an organization of 86 Ford dealers in the tri-state region. The group supports the Susan G. Komen for the Cure breast cancer awareness organization. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Jim Robinson, dealer of Jim Robinson Ford-Lincoln-Mercury Inc. at The Highlands, said 30,000 people usually show up for the annual “Race for the Cure” run near Pittsburgh that is sponsored by the Neighborhood Ford Store. This led organizers this year to ask participants to bring with them pink quilt patches in support of breast cancer awareness. Volunteers then stitched the patches into nine quilts – five of which were distributed to hospitals in the region that have breast cancer units.
